Trump's Fear and the Midterm Threat: A Troubling Reality?
In a recent podcast, author Michael Wolff revealed an intriguing insight into the mind of Donald Trump. According to Wolff, Trump is grappling with a growing sense of unease as the midterm elections draw near. This fear stems from a series of mounting crises that threaten his political survival.
Wolff's sources within the White House paint a picture of a president who is acutely aware of the challenges facing his administration. Trump's approval rating on economic matters took a significant hit last year, and Republican losses across the country have not gone unnoticed. In fact, Wolff quotes Trump as saying, "If we lose, we could be finished, finished, finished."
But here's where it gets controversial... Trump's self-awareness extends to acknowledging the problems his administration faces, particularly the lack of job growth. The Bureau of Labor Statistics reports that Trump's second term has seen the weakest job growth since the pandemic, with an average of only 49,000 jobs added per month, compared to 168,000 during President Biden's final full year.
And this is the part most people miss... Trump's promises to "end inflation" have fallen short, with prices rising steadily. Food prices, in particular, saw their biggest spike since 2022 last month.
Additionally, Trump is feeling the heat from public outcry over the "Epstein s--t" and ICE videos, which have sparked widespread criticism. He recognizes the very real possibility of Republican losses in the House and Senate, and fears that Democrats could put him back in court, a scenario he describes as "won't be pretty."
So, what's a desperate president to do? Wolff suggests that Trump is resorting to creating distractions, such as his bizarre plan to abduct Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro and his threats to invade allies like Greenland. Trump has even gone so far as to say, "We need something for 2026, a stand-out thing for 2026. It has to be a whole new big deal."
When Trump first floated the idea of "going for" Greenland, his team treated it as a joke. However, the "peace president" has doubled down on his headline-grabbing tactics, recently telling reporters that the U.S. will acquire Greenland "one way or the other."
The White House, when contacted for comment, provided a recycled statement calling Wolff a "lying sack of s--t" and accusing him of having "Trump Derangement Syndrome."
