The Major Fashion Labels Skipping New York Fashion Week
As the countdown to New York Fashion Week (NYFW) begins, anticipation is in the air. While we can expect a few surprises as the event unfolds, the schedule is mostly finalized for this season. From February 11 to 16, iconic brands such as Michael Kors, Tory Burch, Altuzarra, Carolina Herrera, Calvin Klein, and Derek Lam are set to showcase their latest collections. However, this year’s lineup will be missing some prominent names that many fashion enthusiasts will certainly miss.
Brandon Maxwell
Brandon Maxwell stands out as one of America’s most gifted designers today. Many speculated he would step into the role for Calvin Klein Collection if it ever reemerged, particularly now that Veronica Leoni has taken the helm. Despite not being associated with a major fashion house, Maxwell has consistently presented collections that are both stylish and practical, yet still carry an editorial flair. His absence from this season’s shows raises eyebrows, especially given the financial challenges facing many independent labels following the recent bankruptcy of Saks Global. This situation may not directly impact Maxwell, but the uncertainty remains. We reached out to his public relations team for insights, but have yet to receive a response. So, for now, the reason behind his decision to skip this season’s NYFW remains a mystery.
LAPOINTE
Sally LaPointe typically participates in NYFW, though she occasionally opts out. This season, however, her absence is unexplained and leaves fans wondering why.
Alexander Wang
Alexander Wang has had a fluctuating presence at NYFW in recent years. While he was featured last season, he is notably absent this time around. Attempts to reach his PR team for clarification were met with silence. It’s hard to forget when Wang used to dominate the week with his remarkable shows and extravagant after parties. Change is a constant in the fashion world, and while he may not be showcasing this season, we can anticipate his eventual return, as he is nothing if not tenacious.
Jason Wu
Last season, Jason Wu quietly announced a shift to presenting just one collection per year, which means his signature elegant dresses and sophisticated outerwear will not be seen at NYFW this time. We can only hope he has something truly special lined up for next year!
Marc Jacobs
Marc Jacobs is indeed showing this season, but he prefers to do so on Monday, February 9, outside the main calendar. This strategy allows him to maximize exposure for his designs, and frankly, he doesn’t need to worry about visibility. Jacobs has been delivering standout collections lately, and he could probably host his show on Oscar night and still garner extensive media coverage.
Monse
While Monse isn't holding a traditional runway show, designers Laura Kim and Fernando Garcia are hosting an intimate event to celebrate the Lunar New Year on February 17 at Genesis House. This gathering will feature a salon-style presentation of their Fall 2026 collection, offering a unique experience for attendees.
Ralph Lauren
Always a highlight of the season, Ralph Lauren will present his newest collection slightly off the official calendar on Tuesday night, setting the stage for what could be considered a prelude to NYFW itself.
Tommy Hilfiger
It’s worth noting that Tommy Hilfiger has been absent from NYFW for three seasons now. His shows were known for their grandiosity and excitement, and many are yearning for that kind of spectacle to return. While Hilfiger currently has no plans to make a comeback to the New York runway, he hasn’t entirely ruled it out. We can only hope to see him back where he belongs soon!
In conclusion, the landscape of NYFW continues to evolve, and while some beloved names are stepping away, others remain steadfast in their commitment to showcasing creativity and innovation in fashion.
