Awe's history with league discipline is notable. He was previously fined for similar incidents while playing for the B.C. Lions, including high hits on quarterbacks James Morgan and David Dallaire in the same game. According to Derek Taylor of 680 CJOB, Awe has been fined or suspended 11 times since the start of his CFL career in 2017, making him the most disciplined active player in the league. This latest fine adds to his record, which includes 578 defensive tackles, 45 special teams tackles, seven forced fumbles, six sacks, and five interceptions over his career.
The CFL's department of health, safety, and integrity manages league discipline, and the committee includes key figures such as Greg Dick, Darren Hackwood, Ryan Janzen, and Eric Noivo. The league's policy is to not disclose the dollar amount of fines, discipline related to dress code violations, team or staff issues, or discipline involving released players. Interestingly, two other players were also fined in Week 6 for different actions.
