Traffic monitoring service Inrix reported, "M62 Eastbound exit slip road blocked, queueing traffic due to accident at J10 M6 J21A (Croft Interchange)." National Highways confirmed the incident on social media platform X, stating that a vehicle had left the carriageway. Their spokesperson added, "The M62 J10 eastbound slip road near Houghton Green to M6 J21A southbound is CLOSED due to a collision where a vehicle has left the carriageway. Emergency services are on scene. Delays are building on approach."
But here's where it gets critical... Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service reported that a car veered off the slip road and collided with a tree, trapping the driver inside. A spokesperson detailed that "A car travelling on the M62 East slip road towards the M6 South has left the highway, down an embankment, and collided with trees. One casualty is trapped, but is believed to be conscious. North West Ambulance Service are also in attendance. Fire crews are working with ambulance colleagues to stabilise the vehicle and access the casualty."
Firefighters worked to reach the casualty, setting up lines on the embankment to bring them to safety. The casualty was then handed over to paramedics. A road closure remained in place as of the latest update. The fire service spokesperson confirmed, "The casualty is now in the care of paramedics. A road closure will remain in place for the time being, so please check before you travel. Fire crews are now packing up and leaving the incident - we will have no further updates."
